We took advantage of our stay in St-Maarten last spring to visit the butterfly farm. We rented a car and drove to the French side of the island, towards Orient beach. “>The butterfly farm map
It took us a while to find it first, it was this small Shack in the middle of nowhere, on Rue du Coconut Grove. We weren’t sure if it was worth the drive from Philipsburg especially on the torrential rain we had that day. Luckily, it stopped raining as we approached the farm.
At the entrance there is a little shop, they sell scarves, aprons, t-shirts, hair pins, some arts, all with the same theme: butterflies.
We paid our entrance fee and were led to the back of the shop where the mini farm is. We met our guide and followed him around the little space, listening to him explaining everything about the farm, the plants and the butterflies, always with a wittiness special to the British.
Needless to say, we had a great visit, and I hope to be able to return one day. According to the guide, they might not rebuild air the farm is a hit by a hurricane, and unfortunately Hurricane Irma happened after our visit, so let’s hope.
